Since Britain's railways were privatised in 1998 the railway scene, with 25 passenger franchises, and two freight companies, with both new and old paint schemes, has become colorful indeed! Join us for a tour of some of London's main line termini to see what is new, and spend a day at Clapham Junction, Britain's busiest railway station, with non stop action. We visit Liverpool Street and Stratford to see Anglia Trains, who use class 86 electric locomotives, and First Great Eastern, the London Underground and Freightliner, with both electric and diesel hauled tofc, then it's on to Kings Cross and Welwyn to see Great North Eastern, with it's dark blue class 91 electrics and HST's, which are moving quite fast through Welwin. Next door to Kings Cross is Saint Pancras, now the home of Midland Trains, with green HST's and dmu's. Euston see's red and black Virgin Trains, which when we get to Harrow are at track speed, led by class 90 electrics (up to 125 mph). Harrow also see's London underground trains on the surface, and Silverlink.
Paddington is the home of First Great Western's green HST's and Heathrow Express blue emu's, and we see a Motorail train with class 47 diesels at each end, unloading a Morris Minor! We were ejected from Victoria, (not allowed to film, for "security" reasons) so we went off to Wandsworth to see the Channel Tunnel Eurostars, with their distinctive drone. Wandsworth also see's Connex emu's, and we caught a stone train with a Foster Yeoman GMD class 59, and an excursion train with an EWS class 73 electric and Pullman cars. We pay a quick visit to Waterloo, then it's off to Britain's busiest railway station, Clapham Junction, with a continuous stream of trains, with lots of brightly colored emu's, and the Gatwick Express trains which are led by class 73 electric's. We caught several freights, and a steam excursion, led by preserved Bulleid Pacific "Bodmin". The action at Clapham is staggering, often with multiple trains in view at the same time. Two hours of exciting, colorful trains.
